The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking offers for an institutional partner to provide Technical Assistance for the Conduct of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Assessment in Davao Region.BACKGROUNDThe data from the Department of Health (DOH) Epidemiology Bureau showed a total of 5,860 cholera cases in the country from 1 January to 26 November 2022 which was 282 percent higher compared to the reported cases during the same period in 2021 at 1,534 cases. Most of these cholera cases were reported from Eastern Visayas with 3 620, Davao Region with 810, and Central Luzon with 336. In the DOH Morbidity Report for Week 14 (April 2023), Cholera cases are already 1,146. As of 4 April 2023, 11 cases of cholera, including one death were reported in Barangay Dagohoy, Talaingod, Davao Del Norte. In the same period, clustering of cholera caseswas reported in Davao Oriental, Caraga (90 cases, no deaths).Safely managed water and sanitation services in the Philippines are still low at 59% and 53% in 2021, respectively.
