PROJECT BACKGROUND
By 2030, the Philippines hopes to be Asia-s Premiere Creative Hub by 2023. Globally, the creative
industries are growing quickly, and the Philippines is no exception. According to data released by the
Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the Philippine Creative Economy grew 6.9 percent from 2022 to PhP
1.72 trillion in 2023, accounting for 7.1 percent of the nation's GDP.
Creativity is ingrained in Region 1. From time-honored traditions and indigenous materials to homegrown
talents and craftsmanship passed down through generations, the region is rich with potential. We have
remarkable strengths in handwoven textiles (inabel), furniture and housewares produced from bamboo,
wood, and buri, as well as visual arts, local flavors, and cultural sites that are uniquely ours. These
strengths place Region 1 in a solid position within the Creative Goods Cluster and Creative Tourism
segments.
