Description : BACKGROUND

As enunciated by the Tourism Act of 2009 “tourism is an indispensable element of the national economy, and an industry of national interest and importance”, and consistent with the priorities of the Administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., this National Tourism Development Plan for 2023-2028 shall “Establish a Philippine tourism industry anchored on Filipino culture, heritage, and identity, which aims to be sustainable, resilient, and competitive, in order to transform the Philippines into a tourism powerhouse in Asia.”

One of the goals of the NTDP 2023-2028 is maximization of domestic tourism. From the Philippine Statistics Authority-s (PSA) 2019 data, tourism generated 12.7% of GDP (measuring direct and indirect effects) and 13.6% of national employment.
