IV. BACKGROUND

The Department of Tourism-s (DOT) National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) has identified Culture-based Tourism as one of its ten (10) product portfolios, with Creative Tourism as a sub-product: a new generation of tourism that places an emphasis on engaging tourists with local culture, arts, and heritage. This involves tourists themselves and the locals in the creation of tourists themselves and the locals in the creation of tourist products (co-creation). Its development aligns in accordance with the institutionalization of the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act of 2022.

Aside from increasing the level of competitiveness of our country as a destination and improving the travel experience of the visitors, these products are also envisioned to bring economic benefits and inclusive growth to the country.
