III. BACKGROUND:
Republic Act No. 9593 or the Tourism Act of 2009 provides that the Department of Tourism (DOT) shall have the mandate to provide an integrated market development program to attract people to visit the Philippines and enhance the prestige of the country and the Filipino people in the international community.
One of the products under the DOT-s portfolio is cruise tourism. DOT Region VI is expecting around 30-40 cruise calls from 2022-2024 in Boracay Island. With this opportunity and in order to spread its benefits, nearby sites and potential cruise destinations in Western Visayas must take consideration and advantage of the cruise visits and develop the areas for the benefit of its local community.
