- The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking offers for an institutional contractual partner to support the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing inspection for the verification of the biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) container laboratory of the Philippine Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM)under an Agreement for Performance of Work (APW) contract.The Philippines Department of Health (DOH) - Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) plays a crucial role in the country's public health efforts, particularly in responding to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. In 2018, theGovernment of Japan turned over a Biosafety Level (BSL) - 3 laboratory to the Philippine DOH-RITM. The containerized BSL-3 facility is specifically designed to handle, process, detect and contain indigenous or exotic microbes that can cause potentially lethal diseases through inhalation.During theCOVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the BSL-3 containerized laboratory experienced a breakdown, preventing its full utilization due to the need for repairs and recertification. A certified BSL-3 facility and equipment will protect the laboratory personnel, the immediate community and the environment from therisk of infection and unwanted spread or transmission.
