Description : RATIONALE:
Violence against women and girls remains a pervasive and deeply rooted human rights violation globally, manifesting in physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Despite significant policy advances, nearly one in three women worldwide—approximately 736 million women aged 15 and older—have experienced physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime, often at the hands of an intimate partner, with more than 640 million women enduring intimate partner violence. The effects are far-reaching, impacting women-s mental, physical, and reproductive health, and in 2023 alone, an estimated 51,100 women and girls were killed by intimate partners or family members, averaging 140 deaths per day—highlighting the urgent need for systemic and sustained action (UN Women, 2024).
