Description : RATIONALE

Despite significant progress in advancing gender equality and women-s rights in the Philippines, violence against women (VAW) remains a deeply rooted and widespread issue. It persists across social classes, regions, and age groups, affecting the physical, emotional, and economic well-being of millions of women and girls. Addressing this requires more than programmatic intervention and demands a sustained, multi-sectoral, and high-level commitment to a unified national strategy.

The National Action Plan to End Violence against Women (NAP EVAW) provides this strategic and rights-based roadmap. It reflects the Philippines- compliance with its obligations under international human rights treaties, such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Beijing Platform for Action, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 5), as well as national legislation including the Magna Carta of Women, the Anti-VAWC Act, and other protective laws.
