• Background and RationaleThe Philippine-Pacific Health Initiative (PhilPac) is a partnership between the Philippines and Pacific island countries (PICs), facilitated by the World Health Organization Regional Office for the Western Pacific(WHO WPRO). The Initiative aims to strengthen health systems and human resources for health across PICs by leveraging the Philippines- extensive experience and expertise in health professional education, training, and service delivery.The First PhilPac Ministerial Conference, held in Manila in November 2024, concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening regional collaboration through concrete actions and sustained dialogue. Specific recommendations were outlined for consideration by the Philippines, Pacific Island Member States, WHO and development partners, with emphasis on joint initiatives with universities, local governments and international organizations.The Second Meeting on the Philippine-Pacific Health Initiative will be held on 26-28 August 2026 in Manila, Philippines. The meeting will bring together Ministers of Health and senior government officials from across the Pacific, Philippine government counterparts, WHO leadership, and global health experts.
