The Department of Tourism (DOT), under Republic Act No. 9593 or the Tourism Act of
2009, is mandated to promote sustainable tourism and enhance the country-s global image through
strategic market development programs.
Since 2020, DOT Region VI has supported the Slow Food Movement as part of its
commitment to sustainable food systems, local culture, and environmental preservation—
strengthening Western Visayas- unique culinary identity.
The Philippines was selected to host Terra Madre Asia Pacific 2025, following the success
of its participation in Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2024, led by the Slow Food Communities of
